Focus on the Family Dumps Wells Fargo

If there is any practical way to do so, please try to support Christian businesses and refrain from patronizing those who actively support causes that are in direct conflict with the Bible.

(AgapePress) - Focus on the Family announced in December that it is ending its banking relationship with Wells Fargo due to that company's aggressive efforts to promote the homosexual-rights movement.
Over the years, the pro-family organization had become aware of other pro-homosexual efforts by the company. But what finally tipped the scales was the decision by Wells Fargo to support the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) with company money.
"Earlier this year we learned that Wells Fargo gave a matching gift to a pro-homosexual group to enable it to raise more money to fight organizations like our own," Focus said in a December press release. "As one of Wells Fargo's customers, we objected, and we received no satisfactory resolution from the bank's corporate office."
In fact, Focus noted that a statement on GLAAD's website was filled with praise for the company's support: "Incredible news: Wells Fargo has offered to help support GLAAD's fight for equality against the Anti-Gay industry by matching your tax-deductible contribution dollar for dollar."
Focus said it realized that it could not limit its business relationships only to companies that were explicitly Christian. "That said, when our bank allows proceeds from our business to be used to impede our work, we must object, even if it inconveniences us in our professional relationships."
Another pro-family group -- the American Family Association -- recently announced a one-year boycott of the Ford Motor Company, in part for the automaker's financial donations to homosexual-rights groups, GLAAD among them. According to AFA, Ford last year pledged to give up to $1,000 to GLAAD for every Jaguar or Land Rover purchased. Other pro-homosexual groups Ford has funded include the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force ($200,000 in 1999) and the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Campaign ($100,000, also in 1999).

I think Focus on the Family on totally on the right track here. Just think what an impact we as Christians could have if we would start showing our backbones and begin to consistantly and collectively boycott these business. I am not a prophet, but I daresay these people would quickly switch sides and change opinions.

Hi Beth!
They are totally right to do this. I think that like the NBC "book of daniel" thing, Christians can be heard and need to take sides on moral issues. I asked a commentator one time "where is it writen that a Christian cannot have an opinion about a contraversial subject?" You see, he was getting on to me about not advocating "love and tolerance" about a certain subject I post about quite often here. By the way, the word "tolerance" is only mentioned one time in the Bible (Romans 2:4) and in that instance, Paul is talking about God's tolerance toward's us. If one reads the Bible, they will find very little, if any tolerance of sin. Even Jesus didn't put up with it.
Anyway, sorry for the tangent there, but we Christians do need to support Biblical Truth and Moral Obsolutes with our dollars. They speak almost as loud as our voices.

You all are very misguided. Wells Fargo does a number of amazing things for all types of organizations in their communities across the country, your actions here are very misguided and will no doubt backfire on you in the short term.

Sorry Anonymous and Jesus Loves, but I disagree. Focus on the Family is well within their rights to support organizations that hold dear to the same morals and values they do. Likewise, they can pull their support from the ones who don't. There are too many other places that Focus can put their money, ones who see eye to eye with their values. The fact that Wells Fargo does nice things for people is admirable. The bottom line is that Focus can go anywhere they want to that is in line with their moral views.
Also, I can’t remember one time in the Bible where Jesus compromised His (and God’s) rules in order to “share the love”. The “love” argument is starting to wear pretty thin with me. I don’t know where the world got the idea that Christian’s can’t take a stand on controversial issues, but I assure you that we can and are actually called to “contend” for Jesus (Jude 1:3). If we won’t stand up for Jesus, that just opens us up to fall for anything. The world throws enough bad things at us that we can’t control. Let’s take a stand for Jesus, Biblical Truth and Moral Absolutes and contend for Him wherever we can.
God Bless!
