Profile of a Christian Businessman

It's getting harder these days to find business people who are not afraid to make their Christian values a part of their business operating procedures. One such man though is David Green, the founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby.

One look at the company's
mission statement and hours of operation indicate an organization built around Christian values.

Their mission statement says:
In order to effectively serve our owners, employees, and customers the Board of Directors is committed to:
Honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.
Offering our customers an exceptional selection and unbeatable value.
Serving our employees and their families by establishing a work environment and company policies that build character, strengthen individuals, and nurture families.
Providing a return on the owners' investment, sharing the Lord's blessings with our employees, and investing in our community.
We believe that it is by God's grace and provision that Hobby Lobby has endured. He has been faithful in the past, we trust Him for our future.

Consider the store hours as well:
MONDAY through SATURDAY
Monday - 9:00 am to 8:00 pm

Tuesday - 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
Wednesday - 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
Thursday - 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
Friday - 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
Saturday - 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
ALL STORES CLOSED ON SUNDAY (emphasis mine -ed.)

Now it has to be somewhat of a financial sacrifice to be closed on Sundays, especially during the Christmas season, when your competition is not. I greatly respect them for taking this stand.

Although no company is perfect, it is good to see one who is not afraid to stand up for the Lord. Mr. Green and Hobby Lobby are a welcome addition to any community.

PJI Helps California Woman Secure Religious Accommodation at Work

Agape Press reports a victory for our new sister in Christ, Isabel Mendoza, of Seal Beach, California, who became a Christian last summer.
After becoming a Christian, she asked her employer to change her work schedule so that she could attend church on Sunday mornings. Not only did they tell her no, they also told her she would have to take a vacation day in order to attend her own baptism.

From the article,
Mendoza contacted the
Pacific Justice Institute (PJI), a pro-family legal group, for assistance in the matter. Brad Dacus, president of the legal education, defense, and policy organization, says the client's employer reversed its original decision not long after receiving a letter explaining what the law says about workers' rights with regard to their religious expression.
"The current state of the law is that, unless there is proof of undue hardship, under both state and federal law an employer must take measures to see if an employee can be accommodated with regards to having religious days off, including having Sunday off to go to church," Dacus says. "If employees like Ms. Mendoza are not protected, she would have to choose between keeping and practicing her Christian faith and her ability to have a job."
While employers' responsibilities to accommodate their workers' religious expression can be a "difficult area to navigate," the PJI spokesman admits, he adds that the law is unequivocal on this point. The statute "clearly says that, if the employer is not going to suffer an undue burden or hardship, [it must] reasonably accommodate an employee's religious beliefs and convictions to practice their faith," he asserts.
"In 99 percent of the circumstances, there's no reason why an employer should not allow an employee to be able to have time off to go to church," Dacus notes. But because the legal issues involved can be tricky for all parties concerned, he says PJI is glad to assist both employers and employees of faith who wish to understand their rights and opportunities in the workplace.

It always does my heart good to see a Christian win out against tyranny. I also want to recognize the efforts of the
Pacific Justice Institute in defending Ms. Mendoza. It's important for us to continue to support these Godly organizations.

Supreme Court Hears Youth Abortion Case

OK, now look...
An underage child or a person other than the parents or legal guardian of a child cannot even get non-life threatening aid for a child at a hospital or doctor, so how on earth can the pro-death crowd justify giving a child an abortion without getting the parents permission for the procedure let alone not telling them??? This is just about as two faced as the liberals have ever been. It makes me mad.

WASHINGTON — The
Supreme Court on Wednesday deciphered highly technical legal arguments over an abortion law in the most highly-watched case to come before the justices this term.
New Hampshire Attorney General
Kelly Ayotte told the nine high court justices that a lower court was wrong to strike down the entire parental notification statute based on its finding that three pieces of the act were unconstitutional. The provisions in question, two of which deal with pregnant underage girls seeking abortion in emergency situations, would only apply to a tiny fraction of them, Ayotte said.
The most contentious part of the act was its lack of an exception for an abortion without parental notification for a girl who finds herself in a medical crisis that is not immediately life-threatening.

OT (off topic):
The pro-abortion crowd has been giving states, who offer "Choose Life" license tags, fits. They say they have not been given equal time. OK then, I don't have a problem with them having their "Choose Death" license tags. I'd say that would be a nice touch to their cars.

Restoring 'Christmas' -- Lowe's Axes 'Holiday Trees' Campaign

Yeah!!! Score one for the Good Guys!!!

(AgapePress) - The president of a Mississippi-based pro-family group says he's pleased that Lowe's home improvement stores have stopped selling "holiday trees" and have changed to offering "Christmas trees."
According to the
American Family Association (AFA), several major retailers have joined in a politically correct "push to ban" the use of the term "Christmas" in their advertising and in-store promotions. Included in that list, says AFA, are such major outlets as Kmart, Sears, Target, Wal-Mart, and Walgreens. Last week, the pro-family group brought to the attention of the public that another retailer -- this time the home improvement retailer Lowe's -- appeared to have jumped on the bandwagon as well. AFA reported that instead of selling "Christmas trees," Lowe's was offering fresh-cut "holiday trees." (See earlier story)
Following that revelation, "thousands of AFA supporters contacted Lowe's to express their displeasure," states an AFA press release -- resulting in the retailer announcing it was going to refer to all its trees as Christmas trees "to ensure consistency of our message and to avoid confusion among our customers." In addition, Lowe's said it had removed a "Holiday Trees" banner from their storefronts.
Why make such a big deal about the advertising phraseology employed by retailers? AFA president Tim Wildmon responds.

Tim Wildmon"The secularization of Christmas is a serious problem, especially in the retail business today," Wildmon says. "These big corporations are wanting to make money off people at Christmastime for celebrating Christmas, but they want to call it a 'holiday season' -- they don't want to identify it as Christmas because that might offend one or two percent of the American public."
And since retailers are unable to remove "Christ" from "Christmas," says the AFA president, many of are simply trying to do away with Christmas. Such "anti-Christian bias," he adds, does not bode well with consumers.
"Companies who choose to abandon the national observance of Christmas are finding that Americans are not afraid to speak out with their pocketbooks," he says. Last year the pro-family group called for a boycott of Federated Stores because the retailer had banned "Merry Christmas" in its advertising. But this year, "they are using 'Merry Christmas,'" notes Wildmon.
AFA also reports that more than 400,000 individuals have signed an
online petition to stop retailers' ban on the use of "Christmas." The AFA leader says while this petition, which is being sent to retailers, likely will have no effect on company policies this year, it could affect things next year.
As for the Lowe's announcement, Wildmon offers kudos, saying it is "good to know Lowe's is a company that listens to their customers," That quality, he says, is a "rarity in today's politically correct retail market."

Good for them. I wonder if any of the others will come around. Keep praying about this and putting what pressure you can on them to make the change.

Update:
Restoring 'Christmas' -- Walgreen's, Kroger Respond

(AgapePress) - You win some -- and you lose some. That adage seems to apply appropriately to one group's ongoing efforts to keep "Christ" in Christmas, at least on the retail front.
According to the founder of Mississippi-based American Family Association (AFA), it is apparent that at least one retailer -- Walgreen's -- has gotten the message that it is not in their best interest to continue avoiding use of the phrase "Merry Christmas" in its advertising campaigns and in-store promotions. Speaking earlier today (Dec. 1) on American Family Radio, Donald E. Wildmon said an AFA supporter had heard from Walgreen's, indicating that although it is too late to change this season's advertising materials, next year "things will be different."
He says a consumer response representative with Walgreen's is distributing a letter stating that "Next year, you can be assured our advertising will better incorporate 'Christmas' -- and our holiday trees will be called Christmas trees."

Pennsylvania Sept. 11 Memorial Redesigned

For those of you who missed it, the image to the right was the original proposed design for the September 11th, Flight 93 Memorial in
Pennsylvania. They called it the "The Crescent of Embrace". Now I don't know about you, but if radical islamic terrorist had highjacked a flight with my relatives on it and we knew that the symbol of islam is the crescent, I would think that the last thing we would want a memorial to be shaped like would be a crescent. But that just me...or is it.

It seems like the memorial has been redesigned after a grass roots protest (much of it from the blogshere). Of course the artist and related people couldn't see the problem, but then we have learned to expect that.

The good news is that the design has been changed to a bowl instead of a cresent.
(I haven't been able to find a picture of the new design yet).

Another school censoring Christmas?

The Jackson County School System in Jefferson, Georgia has told their teachers and staff not to wear any religious pins and refrain from referring to a party as a "Christmas" party. They have also censored certain religious Christmas songs from its "winter" program, according to this article on WorldNetDaily.com.

The district has reportedly prohibited teachers from wearing "any pins, angels, crosses, clothing" that contain any religious connotation or affiliation, referring to any party as a "Christmas" party, or displaying a Bible in their rooms. ADF says the district has also removed certain religious Christmas songs from a "winter" concert and censored the word "God" from another song.

Alliance Defense Fund senior legal counsel David Cortman said "Jackson County school officials are attempting to prohibit teachers from expressing any religious aspect of Christmas," Cortman stated in the letter. "Classroom decorations may no longer include nativity scenes and angels. Jackson County has gone so far as to prohibit the common greeting 'Merry Christmas,' and also now refers to the Christmas break as 'Winter Break.'"

Says the attorney: "Many school districts aren't trying to be difficult; they simply don't know the facts about the law. The fear, disinformation and intimidation that the ACLU and other groups like them have promoted over the years with regard to religious expression on public property at Christmastime have led to such misconceptions. ADF desires to educate schools, teachers, and students on the truth about what the law really says."

WorldNetDaily is conducting a poll to see how people feel about this issue.

Just one more attack against the Christian and OUR holiday, Christmas!!

House Speaker: Call it a "Christmas Tree"

Jennifer at the Scriptorium found this article buried in the news.
See her comments below

SPEAKER OF HOUSE FIGHTS TO CALL IT CHRISTMAS TREE
Filed under:
Christian News — Jennifer Rast @ 5:52 am
You know, there is only ONE holiday this time of year that is celebrated by buying a tree, decorating it, and putting it in your house. That one tree chopping, Christmas light hanging, gifts under the tree holiday is CHRISTMAS. Why do we have to call Christmas trees something they aren't (a holiday tree - as if every holiday this time of year has a tree) just to avoid using a religious word in public? If Christmas offends you, then you're an intolerant bigot, and you should practice what you undoubtedly preach every other day of the year.
At least someone in Congress
gets it. Is there an election year coming up? It's strange to see a Republican acting like a Republican these days.

If it's a spruce tree adorned with 10,000 lights and 5,000 ornaments displayed on the Capitol grounds in December, it's a Christmas tree and that's what it should be called, says House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
Hastert, R-Ill., in a letter to the Architect of the Capitol, recommended that the annual Capitol Holiday Tree, as it has been called the past several years, be renamed the Capitol Christmas Tree.
"I strongly urge that we return to this tradition and join the White House, countless other public institutions and millions of American families in celebrating the holiday season with a Christmas tree," Hastert wrote to Architect Alan Hantman.
His office said the tree began to be referred to as the Holiday Tree in the 1990s. Spokesman Ron Bonjean said the reasons were unclear.
On Dec. 8 Hastert will flip the switch to light the tree, a 65-foot Engelmann Spruce from the Santa Fe National Forest in New Mexico. On Tuesday workmen were erecting the tree on the West Front of the Capitol.

It's not prevalent yet, but some people are starting to fight back at the anti-Christian Christmas bias in this country. Pray for them.

Swedish pastor beats "hate crime" conviction

Hat Tip: Mark at Rapture Ready News.

Click for Source Article
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - In a unanimous 5-0 decision, Sweden's Supreme Court today acquitted a pastor of a "hate crime" for presenting the biblical view of homosexual behavior in a sermon. "Voicing one's conscience is a fundamental human right," said Alliance Defense Fund Chief Counsel Benjamin Bull. "This is a huge victory for religious liberty everywhere. In this contest between religious freedom and the radical homosexual agenda, religious freedom prevailed." The pastor, Ake Green, received a one-month jail sentence last year under a Swedish "hate crimes" law that forbids criticism of those who participate in homosexual behavior. In February, the Goeta Appeals Court overturned the decision. The government appealed the case to the Swedish Supreme Court, but today it ruled that Green did not break the law. "As David slew Goliath, Ake Green slew the radical homosexual agenda in this case," Bull said. "We can only hope this will deter other attempts to censor Christian ministers from delivering Bible-based messages against harmful homosexual conduct. Ake Green is a hero, and we are grateful for his stand and his perseverance." Bull founded and then served for a number of years as director of a Europe-wide religious liberties legal organization based in Strasburg, France. He attended Green's trial Nov. 9 as an international observer. In April, Bull met with Green in Geneva, Switzerland, and counseled him with regard to his rights and international law. ADF coordinated and funded the filing of friend-of-the-court briefs for the case as well as the translation of trial transcripts into English. Numerous international groups have used these ADF transcripts to prepare their friend-of-the-court briefs on Green's behalf. A link to a transcript of Ake Green's sermon can be found at www.akegreen.org.

Pray for our pastors everywhere in the world. I fear that more and more, the truth preached from the Bible about homosexuality will be labeled "hate speech".

'A Charlie Brown Christmas' Still Leads Holiday TV Pack After 40 Years

I don't know about you, but I grew up with these wonderful Christmas shows. Fox News reports that they are still very popular.

LOS ANGELES — Good grief, network executives said when they first saw Charles Schulz's "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
"They thought it was too slow," executive producer Lee Mendelson recalls being told by the powers-that-were at CBS in 1965.
But the special was an instant hit with critics and audiences. Forty years later, its ruminations on the spirit of Christmas, backed by a lilting jazz score by
Vince Guaraldi, remain fresh and affecting.
Schulz, the creator of
Charlie Brown and the rest of the "Peanuts" comic strip gang, never doubted that the program he'd written was good, Mendelson said. Schulz, who died in 2000, considered it his favorite of the "Peanuts" TV specials.
"I guess you can have an animated scene where you have a kid read from the Bible," Mendelson said of the show, in which Charlie is depressed by the commercialization of Christmas until he is reminded of its unchanged meaning.
The sermon falls to Linus. "I can tell you what Christmas is about," he says, recounting the story of Christ's birth and ending with, "Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, goodwill toward men."

The rest of the article goes on to list a good portion of the Christmas shows that will be airing this season. I recommend printing the article and keeping it for future reference.
Let's continue to support these wonderful Christmas Classics

18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[
c] because he will save his people from their sins."
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"[
d]—which means, "God with us."
24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

'Extinct' Episcopal Parish Refuses to Hand Over Keys to Property

The division of the Episcopal Church over homosexuality is growing.

(AgapePress) - An Episcopal congregation in Rochester, New York, is determined to hold on to its property -- despite being declared "extinct" by its diocese.
Bishop Jack McKelvy with the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester recently declared All Saints Episcopal Church "extinct" because of its opposition to the denomination's homosexual rights agenda. But the attorney for the parish says it is "alive in Christ" -- and anything but extinct.
While Bishop McKelvy wishes to take over the parish's property, the parish claims the diocese has no legal right to do so. Attorney Raymond Dague, who will represent All Saints should the congregation be sued by the diocese, says McKelvey came down on the parish like a "SWAT team."
"When the bishop came asking for the keys, we sent him packing with nothing but a handshake," the attorney explains. "We were very polite. He brought his chancellor, meaning his head lawyer, with him, and we shook hands, we exchanged business cards.
"He asked for the keys to the church," Dague continues. "He wanted possession of it, he wanted to install his pastor there. And we politely told him, 'No, you're not going to do that.'"
Dague says the standard under New York law does not allow the parish to be declared "extinct," so he does not believe the diocese can seize the parish's property through civil recourse. And while the dispute may eventually be hashed out in court, the attorney says he hopes that never happens.
"We're not going to sue the bishop," Dague says. "Will he sue us? Generally Christians are not supposed to be suing one another. I would hope that he would abide by that scriptural admonition -- but I am a little bit concerned because there was a very thinly veiled threat that a lawsuit may be coming. It's not coming from us."
The Episcopal bishop of Connecticut recently seized the property of an orthodox parish in Bristol. That parish, along with five other like-minded congregations, has since sued the diocese.

Here are some of the background stories:
'Father Bill' Fights Battle Against Liberal Drift of Episcopal Church
He leads one of three Episcopal parishes in California that stood up against the consecration of an openly homosexual bishop in New Hampshire. After his church bolted from its diocese and aligned with the conservative Anglican Church in Uganda, a battle erupted with his former diocese concerning ownership of their buildings and other property.
Episcopal Parishes File Suit Against Bishop, Denomination's Leader
Six orthodox Anglican parishes have filed a federal lawsuit alleging that their civil rights were violated by Connecticut's bishop and the head of the Episcopal Church USA. The conflict stems from the 2003 consecration of openly homosexual Bishop V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire bishop used the opportunity to praise Planned Parenthood for its efforts -- and to go on the attack against America.
Conservative Episcopal Minority Submits to Windsor Report, Rejects Unrepentant ECUSA Bishops
A conservative Anglican bishop says the House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church USA (ECUSA) has responded inadequately to a Church of England report that urged the denomination to repent for consecrating an openly homosexual bishop.
Top Stories of 2004: Episcopal Bishop Says Tolerance of Heresy Better Than Schism
In February, the Episcopal bishop of Virginia told his diocese's annual meeting that it's better to live with heresy than split the denomination over homosexuality.

I have to admit that I admire the folks who are standing up for Biblical Truth. In First Corinthians, Chapter 6, Paul addresses several issues with that church; how lawsuits among believers is handled and sexually immoral behavior. I really believe that the Bible cannot be more clear on these subjects. You either believe the Bible or you don't. If you don't then you subscribe to society's viewpoint on homosexuality.

There is no middle ground on this on folks.

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders...

Doesn't the Bible say something about not knowing the seasons toward the time of his second coming? I'll have to research that and see what I can find.

Jesus is the Reason for the Season

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:6-7 New International Version (NIV)

Kansas Parents Want Books Removed from Curriculum

I wanted to link to this article to show just how far liberalism has penetrated our education system and just how far outside of the decision making process parents have been thrust.
The schools truly believe that parents have no right at all to decide what their children are taught. Schools are all knowing and all powerful where your children are concerned.

(AgapePress) - Concerned parents in one Kansas school district are seeking to get 14 books removed from high school reading lists because they contain obscenities, vulgar language, or sexually explicit material.
The effort is being led by parents with the group
Citizens for Literary Standards in Schools, which believes students in Blue Valley schools are being required to read some novels that are pornographic in nature. However, the Blue Valley Board of Education is refusing to remove the controversial books from the district's high school curriculum.
Greg Motley, a spokesman for the parents group, says the board has a troubling moral worldview -- "and they're extremely sure that our worldview is not correct," he adds.
Still, he encourages parents to take action on behalf of their children. "I think what it's going to take for [the board] to get the message that they need to listen to parents, is for more parents [to make] a stand," says Motley. "It's going to take more parents opting their kids out of the classes that are requiring these books to be read."
But according to the group spokesman, money may be the reason that some parents are hesitating to do anything. He says the economic climate in the community is such that some business-owning parents are taking a financial hit for publicly taking a stand against the books.
"It's a very difficult line to draw in the sand to say I'm going to make my kid walk out of this classroom," he says, "[because] I'm going to cause my kid to be ostracized by the group of peers that he values -- and secondly, that my business might suffer because of the adverse publicity that I receive."
Steve Abrams, chairman of the Kansas State Board of Education, recently stated that "superintendents and local boards of education in some districts continue to promulgate pornography as 'literature,' even though many parents have petitioned the local boards to remove the porn." Motley says his group currently has 800 people on a petition saying the 14 books should be not read by any students in the Blue Valley School District.

Aside from new blood on Boards of Education, I'm not sure what parents can do. Even as a group, parents have no threat to levy at a school board other than drumming up enough support to have them voted out during the next election or perhaps a recall election.
The problem is, getting enough others parents concerned and involved to make a difference.

Pray long and hard for our Children!!

And Even the Rocks Will Pray

My wife sent this to me this morning (Thank You, Sweetheart!!). It's one of those really cool pictures you have to turn your head to see. It's pretty cool the way they did it. Take a look.

For those of you who slept on the pillow wrong last night, I'll turn it for you.

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 38 "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!"
40 "I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out." Luke 19:37-40

Texas-Like Commandments Monument Under Attack in Sooner State

The Anti Christian Litigation Union, I mean the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is at it again. Even though they've been handed a defeat on this issue in Texas, they're going to try it in Oklahoma.

(AgapePress) - The ACLU has filed a lawsuit against another city over a public display of the Ten Commandments as part of a historical exhibit.
Last November officials in Haskell County, Oklahoma, erected a marble monument depicting the Ten Commandments on one side, with the Mayflower Compact on the other. The monument sits in Stigler, Oklahoma, the seat of Haskell County. Now the American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit seeking removal of the monument. The suit, Green v. Haskell County, was filed on behalf of Stigler resident Jim Green, a disabled 68-year-old veteran, who claims the monument constitutes government interference in individuals' religious freedoms.
"[W]hen the government starts dictating what religious ideas are 'right,' it interferes with a person's choice," Green said in a statement released in connection with the lawsuit. He contends that placement of the monument near the courthouse "sends the message that if you don't subscribe to this specific thought, you will have no access to the government."
The Ten Commandments display sits on county grounds along with other memorials dedicated to those who died in the Civil War, World War I, and World War II.
Erik Stanley is with
Liberty Counsel, which is representing the county. He says the ACLU is fighting a tough battle in light of last summer's Supreme Court ruling over a similar monument on the Texas State Capitol grounds in Austin.

Erik Stanley"The ACLU is going to argue that because the [Haskell County] monument was erected only a year ago that it's different than Texas because Texas's monument has been on the Texas state capitol grounds for about 40 years," the Liberty Counsel attorney says.
According to Stanely, Supreme Court Associate" Justice John Paul Stevens provided the swing vote in the Texas case. "[Stevens said] that basically because the monument had been there for 40 years it was constitutional -- that was really the only ground that he decided the case on," Stanley explains. "So that's going to be the battle."
But the lawyer insists that Haskell County's public display of the Decalogue will be defended.
"We are going to argue that this Ten Commandments is constitutional," he says. "That if Texas is allowed to have on its state capitol grounds a monument that is essentially identical to what Haskell County has, then Haskell County should be able to have the exact same monument on its grounds."
Stanley contends that there should be no "constitutional distinction" between the two monuments. "We're going to take this case up," he adds, "and if we have to, we'll take it to the U.S. Supreme Court in order to clarify this issue."
Liberty Counsel represents more than a dozen governmental displays that include the Ten Commandments.

OK, so the only difference they can find is how long the display has been in place. I sure hope congress can put a stop to these people filing frivolous law suits.
See the Stop the ACLU website.

PETA Tells Kids to Run From Daddy

Just to show how low some people and groups will go, PETA (people for the ethical treatment of animals) has really gone over the edge. The are publishing a comic book that demonizes fathers as homicidal maniacs.
Who are the maniac fathers killing? Fish. For food. Like people have done for thousands of years.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, has begun a campaign to scare children into becoming vegetarians.
The group, which formed to stop animal testing of consumer products but made its name by attacking women in fur coats with fake blood, is producing comic books that portray fathers as homicidal maniacs.
The handout, titled "Your Daddy Kills Animals," features a grinning lunatic gutting a fish, and warns kids to keep their puppies and kittens away from Dad because he's "hooked on killing."
Click on the video box above to watch a report by FOX News' William LaJeunesse.
"PETA is trying as hard as it can to portray the ordinary angler as a demonic, sadistic, cruel killer. This is what PETA does - it paints caricatures of ordinary people to try to convince the rest of us that we shouldn't want to emulate them," said
David Martosko, of the industry lobbying group Center for Consumer Freedom.
But PETA insists that its comic is not outlandish.
"The scientific facts are that fish feel pain in the same way as dogs and cats. It's no more acceptable to hook a fish through the mouth and drag them into your boat and slice them in half than it would be to do the exact same thing to a dog or a cat," said
Bruce Friedrich, vegan campaign coordinator for PETA.
Publicity stunts are nothing new for PETA, which has run ads featuring naked women in cages and people dressed in animal suits warning about the dangers of eating meat. But some critics feel the kid-targeted campaign goes too far.
"This is traumatizing kids by the thousands. There's going to be long-term psychological damage from these kids being exposed to the material that PETA puts in front of them on a regular basis," Martosko said.
But, Friedrich countered, "They can certainly find stuff that is more in your face on the Internet, more in your face on Saturday morning cartoons. We don't need to shelter our kids quite that much."
The pamphlet follows a previous one that painted Mom as a "chicken killer." PETA claims its only goal is to reduce meat consumption by changing children's eating habits. Critics insist alienating children from their parents isn't in anyone's best interests - human or animal.

Hummm...all this fuss over fish. Seems to me there was a man I know of who fished. One day a guy came by and added to his job description. "I will make you a fisher of men". He said. I wonder how he and that wonderful man he follows would feel about being called homicidal maniacs"?

Matthew 4:18-22 New International Version (NIV)
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Georgia Baptists Initiate Break with Mercer Univ.

It's good to see a group that is not afraid to put it's money where it's mouth is.

(AgapePress) - Southern Baptists in Georgia are disassociating themselves from a historically Baptist school that employs two Christianity professors and several other faculty members who support homosexual student activism on campus.
By a 98 percent vote, the
Georgia Baptist Convention recently decided to sever ties with Mercer University in Atlanta because of the school's endorsement of the homosexual lifestyle. The school hosted a "gay pride" event whose supporters reportedly included faculty and members from the school's Department of Christianity. If the Convention votes in a similar fashion next November, Mercer will no longer be considered a Georgia Baptist school or receive $3.5 million a year in funding from the Convention.
Dr. Tony Romans is the pastor of North Peachtree Baptist Church in Atlanta. He says theological liberals are at home in an academic setting -- and likely could not survive in the pulpit.
"A lot of the men who go through seminary and get the academic training who are liberal in their theology cannot make it as a pastor in most of the local churches," Romans exclaims. "They can't go to their pulpit and preach that liberal theology; the people won't stand for it."
To support his point, he notes that pastors' sermons in "even the most liberal congregations [that] vote in a liberal way on a lot of issues" are not as "overtly liberal as some of these types of things are."
Part of the problem at Mercer, he explains, is that the Georgia Baptist Convention has been prevented from determining who is nominated to the school's board of trustees. "Basically Mercer has a board that is self-perpetuating in that sense," Romans says.
"So the ideology that has come to the campus, as we've seen through these recent events, just demonstrates that the people who are leading that institution do not share the historical Baptist roots or the historical Baptist beliefs that we as Georgia Baptists do."
Romans recommends that Georgia Baptists who want their college-age children to receive a solid Christian education consider schools like Shorter College in Rome and Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon. Mercer currently has approximately 7,000 students.

To take away 3.5 million is no small thing. The school might want to reconsider how it portrays itself. Especially to the people providing the funding.

Supreme Court Marble Facade Crumbles

Here's a little humor for today. As much as I dislike the decisions the Supreme Court has been handing down recently, the byline "Supreme Court Crumbles" caught my eye, but I didn't think it would be literately. :-)

Anyway, the building had some problems today, but no one was hurt.

Is God trying to tell them something?? ;-)

Christian Activist Foresees Uphill Marriage Protection Battle in Maine

This needs to be prayed about...Hard.

(AgapePress) - A spokesman for the
Christian Civic League of Maine (CCLM) says the recent rejection of pro-family values by a majority of Maine voters indicates a spiritual void in the state. The voters there said no to a "people's veto" that would have nullified a bill passed by the legislature giving special rights to homosexuals.
Maine voters had rejected special rights for homosexuals in 1998. However, pro-homosexual activists are celebrating across the state today, after citizens recently opted not to use a people's veto to repeal the bill pushed by the state's liberal governor and legislature -- a measure conferring special rights on gays and lesbians.
CCLM legislative liaison Tim Russell believes the voters in his state need to be made aware that "Pandora has been let out of the box." Concerned that this victory by the homosexual lobby will pave the way for the approval of same-sex marriage statewide, he asserts, "Clearly, we're going to have to address the officials that we elect. We're going to have to start to educate the Maine citizens."
One of the first issues to be addressed, Russell contends, is the spiritual climate in the New England state. "We have throughout this campaign spoken God's word, his truth, in love; and it's been turned around and spouted back that we are bigots," he says. "And clearly, scripture tells us that we can expect this." The anti-family opposition has been so vicious, he notes, that pro-family voters have been accused of hate speech simply for wearing buttons supporting traditional marriage.
The CCLM spokesman concludes that, if there is to be any hope of shoring up traditional marriage against its attackers, pro-family forces are going to have to take political action. "We could never hope to pass a constitutional amendment defining marriage as a man and a woman in this state -- and it must be done through the legislature in the state of Maine -- until we change the House and the Senate here in the state -- and, actually, the governorship," he says.
Russell says Maine's voters must get mobilized to get rid of legislators who continue to support reckless agendas promoting unhealthy, anti-family lifestyles. "We've got to get men and women who subscribe to traditional family values," he asserts, "and clearly we have got to turn our attention back to scriptural values in God's word."

Foreign Office 'unrelentingly pro-Palestinian' says Israel

I realize that the Israelis have done their fair share of things to annoy people. Look at how many times they got "spanked" in the Bible. But I have to wonder, when are they going to be able to quit bending over backwards, making all the concessions and also getting hurt the most while the palestinians do little or nothing to uphole their end of the bargain.
Where is the world outcry toward the palis? The silence is deafening.
Now check out yet another example of Israel getting "slapped" while the palis get off scott free.

Israel has reacted angrily to a confidential Foreign Office document accusing it of illegally expanding Jewish settlements and routing the West Bank barrier to prevent east Jerusalem from becoming the Palestinian capital.
Officials described the document, drafted for an EU foreign ministers meeting earlier this week, as "anti-Israeli" and said it was further evidence the Foreign Office is "unrelentingly pro-Palestinian". Britain makes more formal protests to Israel over its actions in the occupied territories than any other country.
The document warns Israeli actions are jeopardising peace and risk radicalising Palestinians. It recommends several measures to resist the Israeli tactic, including politically symbolic actions such as moving meetings with Palestinian officials from Ramallah to east Jerusalem.
An Israeli foreign ministry spokesman, Mark Regev, said: "We would see that as problematic. There are agreements with the Palestinians where that isn't supposed to happen. It would not be the actions of those who support Israel."
An Israeli source said: "We are not in the slightest bit surprised that this should have come from the British. On the one hand they always say they understand Israel's problems and want to be an intermediary and on the other they are accusing us and attempting to embarrass us. They cannot be trusted," he said.
No 10 played down the document, saying it was "drawn up as part of the EU process, reflecting not just British views but the collective views of the head of missions in Jerusalem". Although it was written by British diplomats at the UK's consulate in east Jerusalem, one diplomat said "there are others who agree with it".
Israeli officials contrast what they see as Foreign Office hostility with the views of some British ministers. In September the Middle East minister, Kim Howells, shocked UK diplomats when the former chair of Labour Friends of Israel told the Jerusalem Post that rocket and artillery attacks on the Gaza Strip were a "measured" and "proportionate" response to Palestinian mortar attacks on Israel.
At the time British diplomats were lodging complaints over dozens of attacks on Gaza that destroyed schools and homes and the use of sonic booms to intimidate Palestinian civilians.
The Jerusalem Post observed Mr Howells' support for Israeli actions was only tempered by a note from an FO aide who reminded him to mention UK objections to the spread of Jewish settlements
.

In light of all the violations of agreement the palis have made, no one could blame (although they would do so anyway) the Israelis if they threw the palis out and reclaimed all of their (Israel's) territory. I mean all of them, thrown out, that is. Every last one of them. Let their so called peace loving islamofacist neighbors find homes for them.

Charity cash for Palestinian poor was siphoned to suicide bombers

And why does this not surprise me. (Hat tip LGF)

Millions of pounds donated by British and other European charities to help the Palestinian poor were unwittingly diverted to fund terror and support the families of suicide bombers, Israeli prosecutors claimed yesterday.
Ahmed Salatna, 43, a Hamas activist from the West Bank town of Jenin, was remanded in custody by a military court charged with distributing €9m (£6.2m) (over 10.5 million dollars U.S. -ed.) for such purposes over the past nine years. The recipients are alleged to have included the family of a young man who blew himself up at the Sbarro pizza restaurant in Jerusalem in August 2001, killing 15 people and wounding 107. Hamas and Islamic Jihad acknowledged responsibility.
The charge sheet names two British charities, Human Appeal International and Interpal. Human Appeal is a broadly based fundraising organisation, currently helping victims of the Pakistani earthquake. Interpal describes itself as "a non-political, non-profit-making charity that focuses solely on the provision of relief and development aid to the poor and needy of Palestine". No one was available for comment at its London office yesterday. Other charities mentioned were the French CBST, the Italian ABSPT and the Al-Aqsa Foundation, which operates in Austria, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden.

And yet these peace loving islam palestinian organizations only help the poor, right?

Home Education Seen As Timely Solution to Failing Public Schools

It is getting more and more tempting to bring teaching into the home. With the schools becoming more and more liberal (and immoral) in their teaching, parents are really starting to consider home schooling.

(AgapePress) - An effort to double the number of home school students in the United States is off and running, and already the response has been positive. E. Roy Moore, the man behind the launch of the "
Homeschooling Family to Family" project, believes the time is right to push home education.
"Christian faith home schooling is America has come of age," Moore says, "and it's time now to get on offense and become more outreach- and evangelistic-oriented in our presentations." He believes faith-based home schooling is an increasingly attractive option, especially since growing homosexual influence in public schools and the schools' anti-parent policies regarding sex education and abortion are raising the anxiety level of many parents today.
Also, the home education advocate notes, failing standards of education, social engineering in the classroom, and drugs and violence on school campuses have led to a surge in home schooling in recent years. Meanwhile, he points out, home schooling has experienced tremendous changes, growing from its early days of being viewed with suspicion and skepticism by government and education officials to now offering large state conventions and curriculum fairs and even exerting influence with state legislatures around the nation.
Home schoolers were once outcasts, Moore asserts, "but the tide has turned, and now Christians who are public schooling their children are on defense." Now it is those parents with kids in government schools, he says, who must "give an explanation of why their doing such a terrible thing."

If the liberals have their way, they will completely cut the parent out of the education process and then push their agenda of homosexuality and sex with anyone, anytime to our children. With parents being so busy just trying to make ends meet, the chance of them being able to catch and debate the "education" the schools are dishing out is slim.

Pray for our Children.

Momma Sheehan Book Signing & What Media Bias?

Check out the massive crowds that attended Cindy Sheehan's book signing party at Crawford, Texas this last weekend. Why there must be..what, maybe five people.
I can only hope that this woman's fifteen minutes of fame in the spotlight are over. It's been shameful how she has exploited her son's courageous death. It mades me sick how she has acted. She never met a camera she didn't like.

As for media bias, the last picture in the set is the one Reuters ran. It's been pointed out what a strange camera angle they used in order to avoid showing just how few people showed up.

Tehran to Pyongyang: Trade oil for nuke help

Maybe we should have expected this. Who better for the Iranians to buy nuke material and information from then the North Koreans? They need the oil and energy solutions and Iran wants the ability to put nukes in the hands of their deranged leader. What a world this has become.

Western intelligence sources, cited in yesterday's edition of Der Spiegel, say Iran has asked North Korea for assistance with its nuclear missile program in exchange for oil and natural gas.
According to the German daily, a senior Iranian official visited Pyongyang in October to tender the offer. While North Korea's response to the deal was unclear, revelation of Tehran's outreach fuels further suspicion Iran is attempting to develop nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them.
Last week, the U.N.'s atomic watchdog agency revealed that Iran had received what appeared to be blueprints for the core of a nuclear warhead in 1987 through the network run by Abdul Qadeer Khan, father of Pakistan's nuclear program. During the same week, Tehran announced it had begun converting a second batch of uranium into gas, a necessary step toward enrichment for generation of electricity or development of a nuclear bomb.

As WorldNetDaily has previously reported, Tehran is getting secret help for its Shahib 3 missile program from former Russian military personnel who are acting as go-betweens on a deal struck in 2003 between North Korea and Iran.

Of course the first thing they will do with their nukes is to flip one at Israel. But what about the palestinians, you might ask? Since when has the arab world ever cared about the palis past wanting them for cannon fodder?
I hope the Lord hurries back.

Luke 1:26-38 New International Version (NIV)

The Birth of Jesus Foretold

26 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. 31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

34"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"

35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. 37 For nothing is impossible with God."

38 "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

Powerful Quake Hits Southern Iran

Well, maybe God will do what the U.N. won't.

TEHRAN, Iran — An earthquake measuring at least magnitude-5.9 shook southern Iran on Sunday, killing five people and flattening at least four villages, officials said. The temblor was felt as far away as Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

It seems like there's been a lot of earthquakes lately.

Sharon readies plan for total West Bank pullout by '08

This man has been possessed or something. What is he thinking??? Is he a pali plant?? I cannot believe that he is planning to give away up to 95% of the West Bank.

EL AVIV — Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has drafted a plan for Israel's withdrawal from virtually all of the West Bank by 2008.
Political sources said Sharon has begun briefing senior U.S. officials of his intention to withdraw unilaterally from more than 95 percent of the West Bank. They said Sharon, who quit the ruling Likud Party on Nov. 21, would seek a U.S. and international security presence in the area as well as a commitment for the dismantling of Palestinian insurgency groups.

At least he's not making noises (yet) about giving back Jerusalem!!

Are French Riots Coming to the U.S.?

Hat Tip: Jennifer Rast at the Scriptorium.

Those peace loving muslims are at it again, this time in Oakland, California.

Members of the Nation of Islam attacked liquor stores in Oakland today, basically destroying the inside of the stores.

About a dozen African-American men wearing suits, white-collared shirts and bow ties - a trademark of the Nation of Islam - entered the store on San Pablo Avenue and West Street about 11:30 p.m.
One went behind the counter and swept dozens of shelved liquor bottles to the floor. Others smashed glass refrigerator doors with long, slim metal pipes, breaking beer and wine bottles inside the cases. The whole incident from start to finish was caught on surveillance tape.
The men warned the store clerks to stop selling alcohol to African Americans, but they also knocked over display racks containing bread and other food items. Then, almost as quickly as they arrived, they all filed out and headed to another West Oakland liquor store, New York Market at Market and 35th streets, where they did the same thing.

This is exactly how things began in France. From the New York Post earlier this month:

"The radicals have managed to chase away French shopkeepers selling alcohol and pork products, forced "places of sin," such as dancing halls, cinemas and theaters, to close down, and seized control of much of the local administration."

I have news for them. They better not start that type of thing here. Americans are not nearly as surrender-ish as the French. The RoP (religion of peace) may find things a bit harder over here. But I must say, they have choosen the state to start it in rather well. If anyone is "French-ish" in this country, it's the Californians.

EU: Iran Papers Solely for Making Nukes

If the Iranians don't watch out, the U.N. Security Council might pass a resolution against them!! We all saw how effective that was with the Iraqis. Well, I guess the Iranians can sleep tight knowing that they can develop their ability to blow up the world without interference from anyone.

VIENNA, Austria (AP) - The European Union is accusing Iran of possessing documents used solely for the production of nuclear arms and is warning of possible referral to the U.N. Security Council, according to a statement made available to The Associated Press on Thursday.

The press statement, made available before planned delivery later in the day, was described by a diplomat as a summary of what Britain, France and Germany would tell a closed session of the International Atomic Energy Agency board which began meeting on Thursday.

The statement said the EU would accuse Iran of possessing suspicious documents that ``have no other application than the production of nuclear weapons.''

``Failure to make progress'' on easing international concerns about Iran's nuclear program ``will hasten the day when the board decides that a report to the Security Council must be made,'' said the statement to be delivered by Peter Jenkins, the chief British delegate to the IAEA.

The European Union also reserves the right to call an emergency board meeting before the next scheduled gathering in March - for possible Security Council referral - ``if Iranian behavior makes it necessary,'' said the statement.

More Trash from E! - Entertainment Television

Sometimes this network has a good show, but for the most part, the network who brought you Howard Stern, now is raising the bar by bring you Girls Next Door.
That's right folks, more smut thrown your way to further the cause of moral decay and according to Dr. Judith Reisman, is "just another example of Hollywood's attempt to normalize the porn industry in today’s culture". Bring on none other than Hugh Hefner and the everyday lives of the three "twenty-something" live-in girlfriends.

(AgapePress) - Entertainment Television's show Girls Next Door is just another example of Hollywood's attempt to normalize the porn industry in today’s culture, claims an internationally respected expert and justice consultant on the subject.
In an exclusive interview, Dr. Judith Reisman -- author of the soon-to-be-released book Kinsey's Attic: How One Man's Psychopathology Changed the World -- blasted the E! TV channel by saying, "the fact [that the network] states on its website that they are owned 49.9% by Disney says it all.“
Continuing, Reisman asserts that “Disney now pimps the antique, surgically enhanced Hugh Hefner playboy. Hefner's 'innocent' pornography will seduce dad. Seduce dad and you will get his kids. Seduce kids and you control; you own an entire impotent male population of users and female wannabees -- forever."
Reisman, a prolific writer who is best known for her expose on sex researcher Alfred Kinsey, recalls that Hefner "actually drew the first 'sibling' incest cartoon for Playboy in 1954." She adds that the Playboy founder "personally selected the thousands of child sex abuse jokes and cartoons that were a Playboy staple."

Repost of the Nearing Midnight Commentary from Rapture Ready

Todd Strandberg, the founder of the Rapture Ready website offers these interesting comments about the current music scene this country is experiencing.

21 Nov
My Two Cents on 50 Cent and His Ilk
The moral watchdogs who bemoaned the wicked state of music in the '80s had no idea how bad things would be today. Rap music is has set a new standard for evil in pop music. Rap, in the form of hip-hop and gangsta rap, has grabbed about 80 percent of the market share.
I was watching some of the videos for this type of music on MTV2 and I was amazed at how focused they have become at promoting immorality. Nearly all of the videos followed the same plot line. If you click to a rap video at any hour of the day, you find the glorification of vices such as crime, violence, hedonism, misogyny, drugs, and greed.
When I saw one video, I thought the devil himself must have produced it. It showed a group of hoodlums dancing around a fancy car. Wearing stylish hip-hop clothes and diamond-encrusted jewelry, they waved cash to the camera while a couple of half-naked honeys made their moves in the background. The video was the perfect ad for materialism.
The number one rapper today is "50 Cent" Curtis Jackson. This guy's life story is one of a horrific series of tragedies. Jackson never knew his father. When he was 8 years old, Curtis' mother, a bisexual Queens drug dealer working under "Fat Cat" was murdered. As a teenager, he made a living by selling crack cocaine. His choice of vocation led to prison time.
In May 2000, Jackson survived being shot 9 times in the face, hand, and legs by an assailant. He was also stabbed twice, once by rival rapper Ja Rule in one of his many violent disputes.
You would think that it would be impossible for someone with such a villainous background to get a recording contract. Because of his 2000 shooting, Columbia Records executives did decide to drop him, claiming the shooting was negative publicity.
The folks at Columbia quickly learned how the world has changed. Fellow rap stars Eminem and Dr. Dre signed 50 Cent to their Shady/Aftermath label, and the rest, as they say, was history. In its first week of release, 50's first major label debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin,' sold 872,000 units. So far, it has sold over 11 million copies worldwide. His follow-up CD, The Massacre, sold over 8 million copies.
I checked out the lyrics for his Get Rich album, and I noticed that six words seem to be the backbone of every song. I would need an adding machine to keep track of how many times he uses the f-word, the s-word, nigga, bitch, money, and gangsta.
Many of the songs, if it is possible to call them that, are about his disputes with other rappers. He promotes three very simple messages: only look out for number one; never show love; and money is the only thing that matters.
I can't believe that people buy this excrement for its entertainment value. The inversion of the value system is what has allowed a person who speaks to such low values to become so successful. 50 Cent is honored as a street-wise hero with a hard knocks success story. The filth that he spews from his mouth is praised for being a realistic portrayal of life.
I truly believe that Satan has run out of ideas for how to produce music with a more evil nature. Maybe a level lower would be a category of music that had pedophiles singing about molesting little boys while blaspheming God's holy name, but I doubt it could be made into palatable format.
In doing research for this article, I could only find one Christian source that had anything negative to say about 50 Cent or other rappers. It seems that the music of today has become so diabolical and so engrained into society that church leaders have no way to invoke reproach upon it.
I can only conclude that the state of popular music shows that we have progressed to the end of the apostasy stage, and judgment is the next logical step.

Read the rest of Todd's commentary

It's almost like the music industry is taking a step back. Of course, we are talking about the only industry who can
sue their customers and stay in business. I have to wonder...maybe if the music "artist" were making was good music, there wouldn't be so many people trying to download it. Sales would increase because people would want to buy the music because it was good. A novel thought I know, but just maybe....
